Institute seeks professionalisation of hair, scalp care practice in Nigeria

Capelli Institute of Trichology, CIT, a specialised institute focused on the science of hair and scalp health, has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the practice of trichology in Nigeria as it graduated a new set of professionals.

Speaking at the institute’s fourth graduation ceremony held in Lagos, Founder of CIT, Dr. Daisy Obiano, called for wider adoption and recognition of trichology as a viable profession in the country. The event was attended by Hajira Abdulkadir of the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE.

Obiano said the institute is dedicated to equipping learners with professional skills in trichology, hair therapy, scalp diagnosis and hair health management through robust theoretical and practical training.
“CIT combines scientific rigor with industry-relevant practices to prepare graduates for careers in salons, hair clinics and professional consultancies,” she said.

According to her, the vision behind the institute was to raise professionals who are problem-solvers and leaders in the evolving world of trichology, hair therapy and wellness science.

“We envisioned an institution that would raise professionals, not just practitioners; problem-solvers, not product pushers; and leaders, not followers. The quality of our graduates today is evidence that this vision was not in vain,” she stated.

She noted that the 2024/2025 academic session was intellectually and practically demanding, adding that students were trained to observe, consult, document and treat clients with integrity.

“At CIT, we believe that every scalp tells a story, and every client deserves truth, compassion and competence. That philosophy has been entrusted to you,” she said.

Obiano added that service guided by knowledge has the power to transform lives and advance the understanding and treatment of hair and scalp health through research, education and clinical excellence.

Over the years, CIT has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading trichology education providers, attracting students seeking practical expertise in hair and scalp science.

To enhance accessibility and flexibility, the institute has also developed a digital learning ecosystem. This includes online course delivery through its e-learning portal, modular learning structures with interactive content and assessments, as well as flexible study options that allow students to participate in virtual sessions, access downloadable materials and communicate through the institute’s virtual classroom system
